See on Channel 8's website that an offender was pronounced dead after "fellow inmates found him lying unresponsive in bed"
The inmates found the dorm officer and told him that the offender "didn't look quite right and was foaming at the mouth"

So the inmates are in charge of safety and security in the dorms, walking tours? Not blaming the officer, probably the only officer assigned to the whole dorm. But this shows that what is "cost effective" for JDD leaves the whole dorm uncovered. Dont know what happened to this guy maybe nothing could be done, we know things like this happen. But with so few staffing in the dorms worse than this can happen.
This is what the inmates pointed out to the officer, but when staffing in housing units is so low like this, what else is going on that the 1 or 2 officers can't know or get the inmates to tell for them???? No wonder RTC got the reputation for being the worst faciltiy for rapes and violence.
Who knows why this guy died and maybe nothing could have been done to make it different but the point is there are not enough staff on duty in the housing units to make sure of safety and security. What would JDD have explained this if the inmates had not alerted the officer??? Maybe the guy would have been dead for hours and hours. That would have been hard to explain why he was not checked on.
And now we are having another hiring freeze and cant hire anyone for at least another month!!!! Yea maybe exception for custody, but they got to be TRAINED first!! All the facilities are in HUGE trouble.
Has anyone heard anything more about this? Nothing on the news. and 5/26 both of you are so right!
Haven't heard or seen another word about it. People die and that's regretable, but sure am interested to know if this was ANOTHER AVOIDABLe death of an inmate in DOC
HE WAS 22 AND DIED OF A DRUG OVERDOSE 3/22/09 after being in Putnamville for 2 1/2 years. The problem isn't lack of staff it DRUG DEALING STAFF!!!!
